The Food and Drugs Board has alerted the public about the distribution and sale of fake eye drops and capsules.
The fake pharmaceutical products which is said to be manufactured by Rapid Optical Centre is purported to treat poor sight, "inability to read", eye pressure and headache.
This was contained in statement signed by Dr Stephen Opuni, Chief Executive of FDB, to Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.
Dr Opuni said the fake herbal preparations which had no indications on the label were seized at Goaso and Berekum in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The various eye drops include; IFC Eye Drop (400mg),EFC Eye Drop (250mg),SFC Eye Drop (300mg), Cornea Scar Eye Drop, Cataract Eye Drop, Glaucoma Solve Eye Drop.
The other herbal product which is Vision Capsules, said to be for the treatment of poor sight, inability to read, eye pressure and headache, has no manufacturer’s name and address. Dr Opuni indicated that all these herbal concoctions had not been given approval by the Food and Drugs Board.
He called on the public to ignore the false and misleading claims through advertisement put out by Rapid Optical Centre on the merits of the above listed herbal preparations on the airwaves.
He advised the general public not to patronize these fake herbal preparations since they could rather cause injury and complications to the eye. In another development, two persons have been arrested in connection with the manufacture, distribution and sale of the above-mentioned products and they are assisting the Police in their investigations.
Dr Opuni assured the general public that FDB would continue to do all within its powers to execute its mandate to protect public health and safety at all times.
