Nana Adwoa Pinamang II, Queen of the Bekwai Traditional Area, has appealed to the Ghana Health Services (GHS) to intensify public education on maternity and its related issues to reduce the incidence of maternal deaths in the country.
She said situations where the fate of expectant mothers continued to bother stakeholders could no longer be tolerated and stressed the need for more to be done to improve the scenario.
Nana Pinamang advocated that the GHS should collaborate with the media to educate the public, particularly women to embrace ante-natal care, regular hospital check-ups and also avoid self-medication and drug abuse.
She was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after she presented quantities of napkins, baby diapers and children’s courts to the Children’s Ward of the Bekwai Government Hospital at a ceremony at Bekwai.
The items were a donation from the queen and Amansie Ladies and Gents Club to support inmates of the ward.
She also distributed canned soft drinks and packed food to the male and female wards, as well as the maternity unit.
Nana Pinamang pledged the Traditional Council’s support to help raise the status of the hospital to facilitate health care delivery in the area.
Mrs Leticia Ayeh-Diabene, Bekwai Municipal Director of Health, thanked the queen for the gesture and appealed to corporate bodies to come to the aid of the hospital.
