This may sound paradoxical but true! Eat well and your appetite which seems out of control will significantly subside and your cravings will vanish, a food scientist, Kan Tamakloe, revealed to the Globe!

According to her, the body doesn’t crave food because it wants to make you feel uncomfortable or give you those mild headaches or probably get you to die early, as some people may want to believe. The body craves for food when it requires nutrients. When the body gets the nutrients it needs, your appetite will fall in line.

Nutritionist say when you live in an under nourished and stressed out state, your body demand for more nutrients, which usually causes one to over-eat! On the other hand, when you are less stressed and better nourished, little amount of food will satisfy your nutritional needs.

The primary purpose for eating is to supply nutrients to your body. Give your body what it needs before you ever think of cutting back. Your body’s daily supply of protein, fat and carbohydrates as well as vitamins and minerals is essential.

Learn your daily protein requirement and meet them. If you are not able to get all the nutrient requirement in the food you eat, you can ask your doctor to prescribe a good multi-vitamin and mineral supplement to make up for the lost nutrients.

Note that if your body does not receive what it needs, it will demand for more. Before you cut anything out, make sure you take in what you need.
Water, according to food scientists, is a good appetite suppressant.

Drink your body’s requirement every single day. At least eight glasses a day is required by the body. If you fail to do this, no diet will ever work, as your body will not be able to achieve the balance it needs. A dehydrated body is an imbalanced body and imbalanced body is not a body that loses weight easily.

Also, it is important to get a serving of protein, carbohydrate and fat at every meal. Fiber is also good for the stomach, besides making it easy on digestion, it is filling, Ms Tamakloe advised.

Researchers have discovered a common pattern in the eating habits of people with healthy weight. They have been found to enjoy their meals, including even junk food! What sets them apart is their ease in ending a meal or snack before they over do it. Rather than eating for taste alone, they eat for how it makes them feel.

To stop food addiction, you need to be clear on what you want to eat. It has to be something that would ultimately make sacrificing food worthwhile!
