The former boss of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Ashanti region, Yamoah Ponkoh, has called for the suspension of the NHIS Capitation System.
The system which was introduced to address shortcomings in the existing payment system was scheduled to commence in the region this January.
Mr. Ponkoh, who is now the Municipal Chief Executive for Ejisu, told Citi News the system is encountering serious problems which need to be addressed before it can be rolled out successfully.
�This is a new system being introduced, the one who is supposed to provide the services is confused, and the one who is also supposed to go for the services is also confused. Yesterday, I paid a working visit to some of the institutions and what I saw was very bad,� he expressed.
Describing the processes under the policy as puzzling, Mr. Ponkoh called for a total review of the new payment policy.
