Nursing students across the country have described as unfortunate comments made by Health Minister Alban Bagbin supporting the dismissal of some nursing students for skipping their Mock exams this year.
The Mock exams prepare the students for their final licensure exams. Some of the students in various nursing schools refused to take part in the exams. Their Principals got infuriated by their non-participation and dismissed them.
The Health Minister at the annual selection and performance review meeting of health training institutions in Kumasi backed the actions of the Principals.
But some of the students sacked nursing students told XYZ News the minister has been grossly misinformed. One of the affected students explained to XYZ News why he and others refused to sit for the mock exams.
“We had been on clinicals for about three weeks and then we presented our case study during that same week… so we didn’t have time to learn so all we were asking for was for them to extend, not that the exam isn’t something serious.”
He said Mr. Bagbin was probably misinformed on the happenings in the school. He therefore urged him to come down to the school to interact with the students to know what exactly their concerns are before enforcing the decision.
