Doctors working in the Tarkwa Government Hospital in the Western Region have already begun the nationwide strike action, Dr. Ebenezer Acquah, medical superintendent of the hospital confirmed to the Ghana News Agency on Monday.
According to Dr Acquah, as from Monday February 11 to 17 this year, doctors in the hospital will attend to only emergencies and in-patients.
He said as indicated in a press statement issued at the end of the first National Executive Council meeting of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) held on January 25, all services including emergencies and in patient care will come to a halt on February 18, until government settles all the concerns raised by the medical officers about their salary.
When the GNA visited the Tarkwa Government Hospital on Monday morning, Dr. Aquah was seen busily attending to emergency cases while those who had traveled from far and near to seek medical treatment were gathered in the outpatient department.
