The Chief Executive Officer of Kama Group Limited, Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, has cautioned the public to look out for a fake Tres Orix Forte drug on the market.
He said the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) uncovered and seized a large consignment of a drug purporting to be Tres Orix Forte, which had been illegally imported from China by a woman called Tina Fordjour.
He noted that the original drug was solely manufactured by Kama Industries under licence from Almirall Prodesfarma in Spain, adding that Kama was the sole licensee of the product with the FDA and was therefore illegal for any other person to manufacture it either locally or outside Ghana and distribute same.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Dr. Agyekum Addo said they noted a few differences between the original Tres Orix Forte and fake Tres Orix Forte from China.
�The batch number of the original has TF 0413, manufacturing date- 02/13, expiry date -01/16 at the beginning. Whilst the fake�s batch number is 120701 with manufacturing date � 07/2012 and expiring date � 07/2015. The original Tres Orix Forte has a flowery flavor whilst the fake had a pungent smell; whereas the original genuine liquid from Tres Orix Forte is various or thicker, the fake one is watery. The original Tres Orix Forte is pink in colour, the fake is light orange,� Dr. Addo noted.
�The public is hereby informed to look out for the Tres Orix Forte of colour combination, black, white and red bands on the box,� he said.
Dr. Addo explained that Tres Orix Forte was a special medicine with active ingredients of amino acids, multivitamins and cyproheptadine orotate used for constitutional thinness and breaking any barrier of loss of appetite to give the user the needed state of wellness.
He added that the drug was to relax stressful people, preventing lot of stress-related diseases and also recommended for infertility associated with psychological state of the woman.
Dr. Agyekum Addo alerted users of the original drug not to take it whilst driving or using machine since it caused dizziness.
The FDA had earlier issued a health alert about the fake product imported by Rita Fordjour, who was arrested at Haatso, a suburb of Accra, with over 12,000 bottles of the fake drug and now in court.
Though the fake Trex Orix originated from China, it bears the manufacturer�s address as Kama Pharmaceuticals, Ghana and all other features as the original Trex Orix.
During a search at Rita Fordjour�s residence in Koforidua, the FDA said receipts and other documents found revealed that she had allegedly been importing fake versions of medicines such as Vermox, Zentel, Panadol, Anti-Tetanus and other medicines from China.
