The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in collaboration with its partners has announced Wednesday August 7 as World Breastfeeding Day.
A statement signed by Ms Rebecca Ackwonu, Public Relations Officer of the GHS and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said, the adaptation of breastfeeding since 1993 as one of the most cost effective child survival strategies had undergone various interventions to support, protect and promote the practice in Ghana.
It said to show commitment to the promotion of optimal breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices, the Ministry of Health and the GHS, together with the support of partners and NGOs, commemorates the World Breastfeeding Week Annually.
The statement said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Breastfeeding Support: Close To Mothers”.
