The Minister of Health, Sherry Ayittey has unveiled a plaque for the construction of a bio- larvicide factory in Ghana.
Giving an overview on the malaria situation in Ghana, the Manager of the Ghana Malaria Control Programme, Dr. Constance Bart Plange, said malaria prevalence has reduced from 72 percent to 27 point five percent currently.
She said the parasite prevalence rate in Greater Accra has been reduced to four percent while the Upper West remains high with 57 percent. The rate for the remaining eight regions, range between 18 to 22 percent.
She announced that Ghana has made progress and has obtained the Millennium Development Goal target on reducing malaria.
The factory will be sited in Salerigu in the Northern Region.
The bio-larvicide factory will also produce bio fertiliser for Ghana and the West African Region.
There were good will messages from WHO, Cuba and Venezuela.
