The main oxygen plant at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) is reportedly not functioning.
Sources at the hospital claim the critical consumable needed for effective healthcare delivery at the facility has not been working for the past two weeks.
The situation has forced the hospital’s management to spend huge sums of money to buy oxygen from a private source.
The machine which uses air as a feedstock and separate oxygen from other components of air broke down because of poor maintenance.
A visit to the site shows only the theatre at the maternity block has a functioning oxygen plant.
The follow-up to the public relations office of the hospital for their side of the story was not successful.
