The Saltpond Municipal hospital in the Mfanteman constituency of the Central Region is in a dilapidated state and requires immediate attention.

Cracks have developed at both the female and male wards posing danger to patients on admission at the hospital.

The roof of the wards leaks badly any time it rains and this compels hospital authorities to move the beds in different direction or transfer patients to a different ward.

The emergency ward also poses a challenge to hospital administrators as they find it difficult to attend to emergency cases due to the nature of the ward.

The medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr. Derek Acheampong Bonsu revealed these challenges when the Member of Parliament for Mfanteman Constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford paid a visit to the facility.

“This hospital is facing a lots of challenges, particularly inadequate funds to buy drugs, gloves, cottons and all the necessary things that the hospital needs to keep it running” he noted.

Dr Acheampong also mentioned non-payment of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) claims as well as inadequate staff accommodation as another major challenges confronting the hospital.

The medical officer further disclosed that the hospital lacked ambulances.

The MP for the constituency, Mr. Quansah Hayford assured the hospital management he will provide the facility with an ambulance.

The Saltpond Municipal Hospital was built in the year 1920.
