The head of Family Medicines of the Korle-Bu Polyclinic, Dr. Priscilla Vandyck has called for early detection of cancer through screening and effective treatment options.
Dr. Priscilla Vandyck made the call at the cervical cancer awareness and screening organised by the Korle-Bu Polyclinic with support from Amani medical foundation and the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma west, Hon. Ursula Owusu at Dansoman.
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer prevalence among women worldwide with half a million cases each year.
Cervical cancer incidence rate in Ghana is among the highest in the world - Low knowledge level, poor attitude and health beliefs are known to account for the low level of cervical cancer screening and awareness in the Ghana.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Priscilla Vandyck encouraged women to report early and complies with treatment that had been proved to be effective.
The director of the Amani medical foundation, Dr. Cartrell Agbeibor also said the aim for the screening is to create awareness and offer support to the less privileged who can't afford the cost of screening.
