The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has embarked on a massive clean-up exercise, to prepare the area for the visit of the US President, Mr. Barack Obama to the Central Region next month.
The exercise was also aimed at desilting choked gutters to prevent the devastating effect of floods after heavy downpour. Mr. Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive, who interacted with journalists after the exercise, said it was necessary to give the municipality a good image.
He said being a marketing centre; Mankessim could attract a number of guests, during President Obama's visit. Mr. Hayfron said desilting of choked drains was the only panacea to allow free passage of rain water. He appealed to Town and Country Planning officers and building inspectors to ensure that buildings are properly sited. Mr. Hayfron cautioned the officials not to allow people to put up structures in water ways.
"Don't allow people to do the wrong thing for their structures to be pulled down later," he said. He appealed to assembly members, unit committees, and traditional rulers to sustain the exercise by making it a regular affair. "You should not be told to clean your communities before doing so," he stressed.
