Mr Kobina Pra Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive said on Tuesday that the assembly spent more than GH45,000 monthly on waste management, representing a large chunk of its revenue base.
He said the situation had called for the zoning of the area into six sub-metros and the opening of fresh tenders and the need for waste management companies to develop business plans for effective and cost effective waste management.
Mr Pra, who disclosed this at the Second Meeting of the Third Session of the assembly at sekondi on Thursday, noted that the body also had to grapple with poor equipment to deal with the situation.
He said the assembly paid GH1, 500 for the hiring of graders on the landfill site at Sofokrom aside other expenses, which tend to hamper the provision of other social needs.
Mr Pra noted that the delay of the assemblys share of the District Assemblies Common Fund for the second and third quarter of the year was also militating against the running of the metropolis.
