School children at the Dzorwulu Primary School in Accra yesterday abandoned classes to catch a glimpse of former President John Agyekum Kufuor and to hold his hand when he turned up to register at the registration centre a block away from their school.
The former president, who was registering at the polling centre for the first time, said because he was due to travel sometime in the week, he requested the Electoral Commission (EC) to allow him to register at a place close to his place since his original centre, dubbed 138, was part of the last batch of centres.
His request, he said was obliged and he commended the registration officials at the centre for doing a good job. The teachers, who appeared unable to control the excitement of their kids, decided to organize a parade for them to listen to president.
Former President Kufuor told the kids to study hard and avoid insubordination at school, adding that they were the. When he was done, all the children wanted to touch him before he finally took leave of them.
