Officials of the Takoradi Port were left in utter dismay after a team of Ghanaian fishermen aboard a Chinese vessel encountered an accident that resulted in the death of one of their colleagues.
The fishermen were travelling from Tema through Elmina to Takoradi when the disaster occurred.
Reports say visibility was a big problem for the fishermen whose vessel was rammed into by an oil vessel resulting in the injury of ten others.
According to XYZ Newsďż˝ Western Regional correspondent, Emmanuel Ohene Djan, when the fishermen made contact with their Chinese bosses to come to their rescue, they dispatched a rescue team to help the injured but insisted on carting away the fishes harvested before attending to them.
But on the insistence of the fishermen, the Chinese reluctantly took them to the hospital. Some of the injured are said to have sustained head fractures as well as serious leg injuries.
Meanwhile the corpse of the fisherman who died in the accident has been retrieved from the sea.
