Some students of the Cape Coast Polytechnic have accused the Cape Coast Police of brutalizing them during a float to commemorate their Student Week Celebrations.
According to the students, the police fired tear gas when they were on board a float van through the principal streets of cape coast.
Some of the students who suffered various degrees of burns are receiving treatment at different hospitals in Cape Coast.
According to an executive member of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Francis Arthur, some students arrested and have been granted bail.
Meanwhile, the Operations Officer of the Cape Cast Police Command, Hilarious Avornyo said the students broke the Public Order Act hence their action to fire the tear gas.
“We stopped them because they broke the Public Order Act”, He said adding that “they failed to inform the Police five clear days. I advised them yesterday and educated them on the law and I was also informed we shouldn’t allow them to go”.
