The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr Mensah Otabil has entreated Ghanaians to value their votes and choose rightly.
Speaking on a message titled "Your Vote" on Sunday November 18, he said the power for a Ghanaian to choose a leader (Sovereignty) is so crucial that it must not be taken for granted.
He said if a politician says he wants to "buy your vote" in exchange for a T-shirt, chicken or money, it means he or she does not value or respect you or thinks you are worth a T-shirt or 'little money', adding a vote is a sacred choice worth more than that.
According to him, before one transfers his or sovereignty to a politician, he or she must look at what they (politician)have put on the table; their policies before voting.
"When going to vote, ask yourself does this person deserve my sovereignty?", he asked.
"In democracy, no citizen can govern a state unless people surrender their sovereignty to him or her. That is why there must be a vote because the people have the sovereignty and they have to say,I want to give my sovereignty to support Mr. A or Ms B," Dr. Otabil said.
He posited that if people vote they have surrendered their sovereignty, in a way saying that: this is my vote. I give it to you in expectation that you will do this and that for me. I have given my will, my power, my authority, my sovereignty to you...a nation becomes what its citizen vote for", he added.
