President John Mahama on Thursday held a closed door meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Railway Workers Union.
Accompanied by the Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), the railway workers presented a petition to the President after the discussions.
Present were the Chief of Staff Prosper Bani, Transport Minister Dzifa Attivor and her Deputy, Joyce Bawa.
The discussions centered on a number of issues including a request to government to revamp and improve the capacity of the Board and Management of the Ghana Railway Company, the need for more investment in the Company to make it productive and able to generate its own revenue to support operations and expedited payment of overdue salaries to members.
The workers contended that with adequate investment, the Ghana Railway Company can become self-sufficient like the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
