The ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council is proposing the establishment of early warning mechanisms in member countries to detect activities of pirates and terrorists.
This has become necessary due to growing activities of pirates in the Gulf of Guinea and terrorists groups such as Boko Haram in Nigeria and Al Shabab in Somalia.
Speaking at the opening of the 32nd Ordinary Meeting of the Mediation and Security Council in Accra, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson of the Council, Hannah Tetteh asked member countries to take a crucial look at the draft policy framework to make informed recommendations to the Heads of State who are scheduled to meet in Accra on Thursday.
