The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, has expressed his profound gratitude to President John Mahama for making the Kumasi Airport 24-hour operational, and urged him to continue with the second phase of the upgrading process.
According to the Asantehene, the second phase will save travellers the stress and cost of travelling to Accra before continuing with their journey.
He added that the growth rate in the northern sector has necessitated the upgrading of the Kumasi Airport to that status, adding that its completion will create more employment opportunities in the aviation industry.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu gave the recommendation at the commissioning of the Kumasi Aeronautical Ground Lightening project.
The first phase has been completed and some of the works include the rehabilitation of the runway and installation of Airfields Light.
Some of the main projects planned for the second phase are expected to include the construction of a new terminal building.
In his address, the President said that his government was determined to accelerate the development of the country, and in doing so, the aviation sector would receive all the necessary attention.
