The Koforidua Magistrate Court has remanded 28-year old scrap dealer for stealing a church bell.
Kofi Gyebi is an unemployed man at Koforidua and was arraigned before court Monday.
Presenting the facts of the case, Prosecutor Sergeant Ababio said on Tuesday, 22nd September, 2015; the accused was spotted by some residents carrying the bell from the premises of the church.
Upon seeing the residents, the accused took to his heels but was given a wild chase by the people who apprehended him and handed him over to the Koforidua Central Police.
According to Peace FM's Eastern Regional Correspondent Michael Akrofi who was in court today, Kofi Gyebi admitted the offence but responded that he took the bell because he deals in scrap materials.
The Methodist Church bell is a relic, surviving since 1926 till date.
The Magistrate court presided by His Worship James Bortah remanded him into police custody.
The accused will reappear in court on Friday, 9th October 2015.
