The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has finally cleared the backlog of over 200,000 drivers licences, ending several months of frustration on the part of the driving public.
Some of the licences have delayed for as long as two years.
As of last week, 196,114 licences had been dispatched to 25 DVLA offices nationwide for distribution.
Chief Executive Officer of DVLA, Noble John Appiah told The Finder that the licence backlog for the Winneba office of DVLA would be delivered this week.
He urged owners of the licences to go to the DVLA offices where they applied for their licences in their own time to collect them.
The licences dispatched to DVLA offices in the Greater Accra Region are Weija – 11,539 licenses; Accra – 48,747; and Tema – 28,367.
In the Brong Ahafo Region, Sunyani received 7,375 licences; Goaso got 2,508 while Techiman was supplied with 2,392.
The breakdown for Ashanti Region is Kumasi – 28,646 licenses; Agona – 5,600; Bekwai – 2,548; Obuasi – 3,715; and Ashanti Mampong – 3,497.
Volta The three DVLA offices in the Volta Region - Hohoe, Ho and Denu - received 1,949, 5,700 and 4,267 licences respectively.
In the Eastern Region, Nkawkaw received 3,408 licenses; Koforidua was supplied 3,335 licences; and Akim Oda got 5,658.
The breakdown for the Western Region is Tarkwa – 1,545 licenses; Takoradi – 10,622; and Sefwi Wiawso – 696.
Central Central Region has two DVLA offices; namely, Cape Coast and Dunkwa-on-Offin, and they have been supplied with 3,594 and 2,049 licences respectively.
3 Northern Regions
Bolgatanga in the Upper West Region received 1,825 licences; Wa in the Upper East Region got 1,337 licences while Tamale in the Northern Region received 5,195 licences.
Chief Executive Officer of DVLA, Noble John Appiah stated that the DVLA has enough materials for capture and printing of licences that can last up to March 2016.
According to him, once the Attorney-General’s Department makes a decision on the way forward regarding the Photo X contract, DVLA would decide what to do next.
