The Ministry of the Interior has declared Monday 7th March, 2016 a public holiday.
A statement signed by Prosper Bani indicated that since 6th March 2016; Ghana’s 59th Independence celebration falls on a Sunday, President John Dramani Mahama by an Executive Instrument, has declared Monday, the 7th of March a public holiday.
“The General Public is hereby informed that Monday 7th March, 2016, has been declared a public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country” the statement added.
President Mahama will on Sunday 6th March review a national parade of school children, voluntary organisations and security services at the Black Star Square to commemorate the 59th Anniversary of our Independence.
There would also be parades in all regional and district capitals across the country.
On Saturday March 05, 2016, Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur will host the annual President's Independence Day Awards at the State House.
Meanwhile, Kenyan President, Mr Uhuru Kenyatta, will be the Special Guest of Honour at the 59th Independence Anniversary celebration.
