Executive Secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC), Duncan Amoah has called on government to halt the imminent implementation of the “unpopular policy” by the National Road Safety Commission, else they will stage a demonstration against the mandatory towing fee.
There was a public outcry in June this year in relation to the implementation of the policy compelling Parliament to refer the Legislative Instrument to the Committee on Roads and Transport of the House.
The Committee after scrutinizing the policy said it was satisfied with the content of the bill which is expected to commence on 1 September 2017.
But Mr. Amoah has in an interview with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM criticized Parliament for approving the controversial mandatory road safety levy, insisting his outfit, COPEC will resist any attempt to force the policy down the throat of the motoring public without recourse to relevant stakeholders.
“In as much as the Chamber agrees with the need to expedite the removal or towing of cars which have broken down on our various roads, we believe there is the need to completely revise this impending policy,” he said.
According to him, none of the alternatives that stakeholders put forth has been packaged into anything to revise the law, hence their planned action against it’s implementation.
For him, it is irrational for the legislature to consider what the state stands to lose if it decides to abrogate the arrangement with Road Safety Management Services Limited to the detriment of the good of Ghanaians.

i wonder what our so called MPs think. their job is to represent the people in their constituency and also seek their welfare, but that is not what they are doing , they dont even come to the people after the election to sample their ideas person like our Ayaa Suwoutom MP Ayorkor Botwe will never come to her constituency . This towing fee we speak against it but they dont care went ahead and pass the law which will end up in peoples pocket . Take for instant the street light that beach and every body pay all the street are without light if you want one in front of your house you have get it your self , also property rate that we pay nothing is being done in the community to enhance the leaving standard of the people . Please Nana Addo dont let us regret ever voting for you , this are one of the little little things that make a party unpopular NPP are the majority in parliament they should use their nos to rule over this law they should think about themselves alone we have the majority of people being under pay any burden them . NANA ADDO WE ARE PLEADING WITH YOU DO SOME THING THANK
Nana beware of some of this bad laws, this is what NDC did and went to opposition they never change their mind but I believe in you and I know you a good leader and God fearing person and also you listen to the voice of the people please review this towing law it is very bad, any fee or levy you put on transportation it affect the people
How will foreign registered cars and trucks who use be made to pay? Most of our MPs are f0000lish paaaaa
Please Nana Addo, we love you and your policies but this one is very unpopular. Let d owners Pay as their vehicles are towed.
If AMA can tow a vehicle parked wrongly and charge the owners why cant they tow broken down vehicles in the metropolis and do same? do i have to pay for somebody's broken down vehicle? ah what kind of country is this. My insurance covers towing services and i dont need anybody to pay for me. Shame unto our leaders. With such laws, how do you expect the youth of Ghana to be patriotic?
Please, Mr. President, do something about this obnoxious law on towing. Why should I pay upfront for somebody's irresponsibility and negligence? Why did parliament refuse to pass laws to prosecute people who abandon their vehicles in the middle of the road that cause fatal accidents in this country? If your vehicle breaks down, pay the towing fees yourself, wherever the vehicle comes from, Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, etc. A vehicle abandoned for a period of time must attract sanctions. This towing business is not mutual insurance of some sort. Pragmatic changes should be effected to this law as it stands now!
forgive my language but some mp's are boggus and sennslesss i swearr! this tow nnonsenseee is one of the most uninntelligent nd bad laws to ever exist in this country if it is passed. HOW CAN WE PAY FOR THE MISTAKES OF MISCREANTS? DONT WE HAVE REAASONABLE PERSONS IN THE COUNTRY TO STOP THIS BBBOGUS LAW? I WONT BE SHOCKED IF THOSE COMMITTE PEOPLE TOOK BRIBES COS I DONT SEE WHY ANY WELLBEING AND REASONABLE PERSON WILL BACK THIS F0000000000LISH LAW. I CANT THNK FAR...MMMMMOOOOAAAAS3MKWA
