DUMPING OF REFUSE ALONG MAJOR HIGHWAYS
It has come to the notice of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the indiscriminate disposal of garbage along the Accra – Tema Motorway.
The Ministry wishes to state that such actions block the drainage systems of the road and leads to earlier deterioration of the road; not to mention the insanitary condition being created with its attendant health hazards.
It has been observed that motorists constantly throw rubbish out of the vehicles without regard to other road users. This, coupled with the garbage disposed of by residents within the environs as well as street hawkers, mars the aesthetics of the road network.
The Ministry wishes to entreat the general public to change their attitude towards the disposal of waste and garbage and dispose their solid waste in the appropriate place rather than along the motorway in particular, and all highways within the various metropolis.
In accordance with the various bye laws of the District Assemblies, such acts are offences and offenders will be sanctioned accordingly. Motorists are encouraged to report any such actions by unpatriotic citizens to the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority on 0302 666591-4/0302664620 for action to be taken.
It is important for all citizens to safeguard our roads and the environment to ensure durability and clean environment.
Signed
KWASI AMOAKO-ATTAH (MP)
HON. MINISTER

there should be a place to dump them. we cant keep the refuse in our rooms if they fail to provide the place for us.
Any social problem is an opportunity for change and growth. This is a great opportunity to create jobs for the youth of the environs in question. Or assign the areas to the Prisons. Let them pick up after the Free ones. Then post stiff fines for people who litter the places. That can be a good source of making money. Lastly, encourage recycling. If people get to know that cardboards used for packaging can be recycled, and that they can make some money by recycling, boy, oh, boy!, your environment will be clean as a whistle. Thing pragmatic. Think capitalist. Think economy. More prosperity to you in the name of DemonCracy.
Ghanaians are becoming too dirty. What is wrong with people?
What is wrong with this minister? Do you know the number of times people have said the same thing? And yet we have ingored them. So who do you think you are to think that we will listen to you? It is simple. Create conducive environment for people to afford food and affordable accomodation so that rural urban migration will reduce. That way, people can live in their respective places of origin with decent and meaningful lives. People DO NOT LITTER where they LIVE. BUt if you mess the economy and make people migrate to Accra and Kumasi, they will litter those two towns!!!! It is the plain truth.
Design your highways so that there are fewer traffic and go-slow so that people do not forced to slow down, buy from hawkers, and litter those places. Use common sense to rule Ghana
