Second lady, Samira Bawumia says her husband is doing well and 'looks forward to returning to work soon'.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia left Ghana for the United Kingdom on medical leave after the Presidency in a statement indicated that he had taken ill. He was accompanied by his wife, Samira.
The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has called for more clarity from the Presidency as far as the health status of the Vice President is concerned.
Meanwhile, the Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid, has stated that the decision to fly Dr. Bawumia to the UK was to ensure that he was kept away from visitors who may disturb his rest and recuperation period.
In a tweet Thursday morning, the second lady expressed appreciation to "all Ghanaians and well-wishers from across the world" for their prayers, support and best wishes.
"My husband and I are grateful to all Ghanaians and well-wishers from across the world for your prayers, support and best wishes. He is doing very well and we thank Allah for His grace. He looks forward to returning to work soon" she wrote.

i thank god for my vice president is well,i prayer for you DR.AND MISS GOD teak call for yours bybyyy.
I am very much abhorred by certain ***barred word*** comments from senseless individuals. What has sickness got to do with lessons? Is he not a human being who can also fall sick? Instead of praying to God for speedy recovery you are here ranting on lessons. What he has been able to do for Mother Ghana have you even done a quarter of it? Let's be sensitive to other's plight. By the way who in Ghana jubilated when our Late President, Atta Mills, passed away, we all sentiment that he is a human and thus stand same fate of departing, we joined the family in mourning and consoled them. Please we should be mindful of what we post when it comes to human life. I pray to God Almighty to cause His healing stream to fall on you and make you whole again, give strength and grace to serve Him and Mother Ghana.
We pray he returns to Ghana and continue with his work. But if everything is well with him let him tweet himself so we can be rest assured. I know my Vice President, he tweets with the least opportunity. May Allah heal him.
Understandable... There is nothing more difficult than cleaning the mess caused by an incompetent govt which was only interested in destroying Ghana for parochial interests. Everything they touched was a mess. Dr Bawumiah, we're praying for you. You will return fit and stronger than ever. No-one should fret.. The job will be accomplished, by God's Grace...Dumsor is gone...Ghana is working again.. the signs are very clear.. and there's no turning back.
They shall surely gather together but it shall not come nigh thee for thy sake. May God be with you Amen.
I really appreciate a hard working vice president like Bawumia. You clearly understand the vision and you work hard to achieve that. Due to your hard work, your first year in office has given discerning Ghanaians a huge relief and optimism for the future. I on my part will take advantage of the opportunities you have brought and make Ghana proud once again. Thanks to you, I have no dumsor and I can plan my business. Thanks to your hardwork, children of Ghana have free secondary education and parents can start saving those monies and invest for better tomorrow. This is just the beginning just as you said. I can assure you that I and my family will work hard with honesty and integrity knowing that you are doing the same for Mother Ghana. I don't won't to be in any other country but Ghana to fix our small problems. You are loved and you are appreciated for loving your mother land. God grant you sound mind, good courage and understanding.
By this statement I can say that all is not with our vice president.
Hope you have now realized how difficult it is to govern a country. Even as vice he can't stand the heat. You were always insulting Mahama. This is a lesson to you.
We thank God. Been very worried but God is the greatest.
