The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has reportedly halted a massive demonstration in Kumasi by irate final-year students of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).

The students had planned to embark on the demonstration on Thursday just three days after students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) destroyed several properties on campus during a protest.

The KTI students complained bitterly about unfair treatment by the school’s management in relation to their academic work.

The students claimed some teachers of the school intentionally mark them down in examinations.

They also complained bitterly about plans by authorities of the school to write their impending examinations in a dining hall instead of classrooms.

According to reports, the students decided to demonstrate on Thursday due to the failure of the authorities to address their grievances.

After receiving information about the intended demonstration by the students, Mr. Osei-Mensah quickly rushed to KTI campus to calm down the angry students.

The Ashanti Regional Minister travelled to the school in the company of some security agents and officials of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Upon arrival in the school, Mr Osei-Mensah took time to listen to the complaints of the student.

The minister told the students to forward their grievances to his office latest by the close of work on Monday, 29th October, 2018.

Mr Osei-Mensah urged the students to remain calm and concentrate on their academic work, adding that he would do everything possible to address all their concerns soon.

After the brief meeting with the minister, the students, who were satisfied with the outcome, called off the demonstration.
