A 15-Year-old- boy is said to have been mistakenly jailed after a Police Officer filed his charge sheet that he is 18 years of age.
The boy identified as Adom was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing.
Reacting to the boy's ordeal, NPP Communications Director, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has adviced the family of the young boy to seek help from legal Aid Commission for legal assistance into his case.
Speaking on Okay FM’s "Ade Akye Abia", Mr. Buabeng Asamoah noted that the boy could only have justice not based on a word of mouth but rather a proper legal action has to be followed to set him free.
“Where he is, words alone cannot bring him back; so I advise he seeks help from Legal Aid Commission because the same law that sent him there will bring him out of jail", he stated.
Ghana Legal Aid Scheme is a public service organisation within the justice delivery system of Ghana.
The Scheme is tasked under the Legal Aid Scheme Act 1997 (Act 542) to provide legal assistance to the poor and indigent as well as other persons in the prosecution and defence of their rights under the Constitution of Ghana.
The Legal Aid Scheme is Ghana's effort at ensuring that constitutional democracy, rule of law and access to justice extends to the poor and vulnerable who would otherwise be excluded from the formal justice delivery system.
It provides legal assistance for all who seek to defend or enforce the constitution in accordance with Article 294 of the constitution.
