Mrs. Veronica A. Adu-Saforo, the Tano North Municipal Director of Education at the weekend, commended Mrs. Freda Prempeh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North constituency for her contributions towards the progress of education in the Municipality.

She said with the assistance of the MP, almost all the basic schools in the Municipality had classroom blocks, desks, tables and chairs and academic work was progressing.

Virtually, all the primary schools in the Municipality are benefiting from the Ghana School Feeding Programme, a situation which, she said had improved enrolment in the basic schools.

Mrs. Adu-Saforo gave the commendation when Mrs. Prempeh who is the Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection presented dual desks to the Tanokrom M/A and Kwasuagya M/A Primary and Junior High Schools in the Municipality.

The MP also presented a great quantity of footwear to the school children and street lights to improve on the lighting systems in the two communities.

Currently, Mrs. Adu-Saforo indicated, the retention rate in the basic schools were satisfactory, due to the school feeding programme, and expressed the hope that it would be expanded to cover the remaining few schools that were not benefiting.

Mrs Prempeh explained she lobbied for, and the National Service Personnel Association of Ghana (NASPA) supplied the desks to the schools.

She said she dug 50 mechanised boreholes to supply potable drinking water to most of the communities and basic schools in the constituency, whilst electricity was also extended to new sites and settlements.

Mr. Benjamin Akumbosgo, the Head Teacher of the Kwasuagya M/A Primary School appealed to the MP to build additional classroom block to contain the kindergarten, classes one, two and three pupils.

He said the school children studied under dilapidated shed, and appealed for computers as well.
