Former President Jerry John Rawlings thinks that the presence of the military and other security agencies in some parts of the Volta and Oti Regions is generating animosity especially amongst border dwellers whose livelihood solely depend on activities along the border.
According to him, the Covid-19 restrictions have already created enough difficulties for “most of our citizens” and that such difficulties should not be compounded.
A statement issued by Kobina Andoh Amoakwa of the Communications Directorate of the former President;s office said “Let us not make it worse with overbearing and intimidating behaviour towards our border dwellers whose livelihood solely depend on activities along the border.”
Mr Rawlings said “Ahead of the voter registration exercise and the December elections, it is important that we demonstrate a sense of fairness and justice to all individuals and groups of people whilst maintaining the integrity and the sanctity of the process.”
Former President Rawlings’ statement followed complaints by many residents of border towns in the Volta and Oti Regions over the deployment of some security personnel, particularly military personnel in the area.
Below is the statement
STATEMENT BY FORMER PRESIDENT RAWLINGS ON DEPLOYMENT OF SECURITY AGENCIES IN VOLTA, OTI REGIONS
The presence of the military and other security agencies in some parts of the Volta and Oti Regions is generating animosity especially amongst innocent citizens whose basic way of life is being disrupted.
The deployment along the borders at peacetime especially at this particular point in time has created so much suspicion and will call for a lot of intelligent flexibility and diligence.
The Covid-19 restrictions have created enough difficulties for most of our citizens. Let us not make it worse with overbearing and intimidating behaviour towards our border dwellers whose livelihood solely depend on activities along the border.
Ahead of the voter registration exercise and the December elections, it is important that we demonstrate a sense of fairness and justice to all individuals and groups of people whilst maintaining the integrity and the sanctity of the process.

My problem is we want citizens in UK and US to take part in the elections therefore duel citizenship is being created .I wonder those nearer can they be dual too ?
@kulubor ***barred word*** ***barred word***. "You people"? What do you mean? We're talking about building our nation by ourselves with ourselves for ourselves. There is no country that will allow foreigners to flood their national roll (ie voter register) an important one at that through porous borders and even most especially in this covid-19 era. Come on folks we all know Togolese cross over all the f'ing time to register on our national rolls such as NHS and almighty voter registration to take advantage of our resources/services and decide our government for us respectively, which country on earth will allow this? F'ker. Look at how the Voltarians themselves resisted the aliens from registering during the national identification registration, that should tell y'all something mf. Little minds grow up! kulubor with the brain of a lobster if that's what you're thinking, sure bring it on, andurunwa wawa dolo, tampiri baaga biiga.
The military has been there since April and nobody talk about it till the registration exercise is about to begin.Anybody who has been harassed should come out and report.Too much politics will spoil everything we do.
This is not new. When JJ was in power he had been sending the military to Ashanti Region whenever Ghanaians were about to go to the polls. Meanwhile, you could see heavy military presence in Kumasi and other areas nearby which were not border towns. Please, leave the NPP government alone.
Rawlings is now talking; who caused it? You encouraged Togolese to register all the time because of tribalism. Now the laws are working, so allow.
Ghanaians are suffering and nobody want to talk. you are rather targeting the opposition party and how to maintain power. you are not walking the talk. plenty promises. we shall see. there are so many issues and you wont do it. stop this stupid1ty and see to the economy, bad roads and utilities. aaaabbaaaa. Akufu Addo is not working at allllllll, apart from free shs, he and the entire government are sleeping. Dec 7 will come and we shall see
I think the NPP's agenda has been very diabolic in this country. they are behaving as if they are clean and are angels. well they will not stay in power forever, and all involved in what they are doing today will feel very sorry one day. secondly , Akufu Addo is setting a very bad precedence for their own party in the near future.
I don't think nana addo himself support something like this. It is some unscrupulous persons in his administration who are doing this. People like the regional minister and deputy defence and interior ministers are the ones behind this agenda. Bryan acheampong and captain oduro are doing this. What nana addo should do is to call them to order. It seems to me that the NDC lacks leadership. They are not petitioning the UN, AU and ECOWAS on some of their issues bothering on level playing field. Ofosu ampofo's leadership is very weak and too diplomatic.
Mahama and his NDC are not an option in this election.... They are terribly c0rrupt. No one in his right sense will vote for the NDC. What have they done for the Volta /Oti Regions? Nothing.....
I am sure this will be the beginning of Rawlings attack on nana addo if he doesn't withdraw the military. Rawlings had given him all his support through his presidency so he shouldn't let him start attacking him, because a lot of Ghanaians still love JJ. If nana makes him start attacking him, going into this election, he will find it extremely tough. Most Ghanaians believe what JJ says. If he says people should vote against npp, lots of floating voters will support him. Nana should be careful.
