Paramount chief and President of the Aflao Traditional Council, Togbui Fiti V has called on Akufo-Addo to budget for an exercise to re-demarcate the border that exists between Ghana and Togo.
This, according to the chief will enable Ghanaians as a whole to have a deep insight into where exactly the land of Aflao extends.
Speaking to the media at his palace yesterday, June 29, 2020, the renowned traditional ruler stated that Aflao is big and therefore its indigenes should not be expected to be of a small number.
He further revealed to the pressmen that most of the residents in Aflao do not have water and therefore rely on or fetch water from neighboring towns which are in Togo.
He also stated that most of the foodstuff the people in Aflao eat are from Togo and therefore, the closure of the border has a big toll on the indigenes.
Togbui sounded a word of caution to the government saying that continues references to the people of the Volta Region as Togolese will result in something that no one wishes to see.
According to Togbui Fiti, there are more head potters which are popularly called “kayaye” in Aflao than Accra but they could not get any food packages from the government in this time that the Aflao border where they operate is closed. This he said was borne out of discrimination against people of the Volta Region.
Togbui Fiti, however, demanded the withdrawal of the soldiers from the town saying that the indigenes are hungry and angry as well and if they continue seeing guns that are been used to intimidate them, they will be forced to take the law into their own hands. The outcome the chief said will not be good.

The respected Chief goffed. Why will he want to play the tribal card. It is not only in Aflao that we have the military at the boarder, they are all round the country. How many foreigners have been arrested trying to get into illegally after the closure of the boarder. There was no lockdown at Aflao, so why should food be shared to people of the area. Everyone has been affected by the restrictions in one way or the other, come to the far west of the Western region and see what we also are going through as a results of the closure of the Elubo and Jaway Wharf boarders. Going by the Chief's assertion, then all of us must be catered for by the Government and can the Government afford that. Is the traditional ruler telling us that without Togo they cannot survive? Necessity they say is the mother of invention. The citizens of the community by now should have started changing the dynamics of the local economy to make the people independent of the Togolese economy. Our brothers and sisters from the Volta region are Ghanaians with equal rights and responsibilities as any other. So they should stop playing victims and the tribal card always. It does not put them in a good picture to the rest of the country. All my friends from Volta region are such a nice people who don't see themselves marginalized, so I don't get it why some people think that they are discriminated against. We should not allow politicians to divide us, influence our thinking or push us to tribal antagonism. We are one solitary state. I think the Chief must at least retract some of his comments, because they are not factual. Long live one united Ghana.
I agree with the chief on some issues but getting to the latter part was like a threat which Ghana will not contenance i don't know if the media twisted it because some of these journalists are unprofessional and fake ! It was a good suggestion about the re-demarcation of the border so Ghanaians will know our boundry ! I agree with him for water but the food i'm not sure which type is not in Ghana and unless they cross over but for the threat of the borders to open is not under his control so there was no need for that threat ! Its not only Ghana that has closed her borders because of corona virus all over the world. Torgbe i think you are aware people from Togo come over to register and vote in Ghana which is against the laws of this land unless probably you are able to convince your fellow Ghanaians that Ghanaians from Aflao also go to vote in Togo which i doubt so if our people are not allowed to vote in Togo why would you allow Togolese to come to Ghana to vote? They also have chiefs why are their chiefs not allowing Ghanaians from Aflao to come and choose a president for them? My last is why would you take the president's advise of "Only Ghanaians are eligible to register not ECOWAS to mean Aflao people do you have something against Ghana"? Ghana's border is not only Aflao so why would you pick on? No chief along the border that soldiers have been deployed has come out to talk because they know it is the responsibility of the government to protect and defend the nation ! I think Togbe should be on his lane there is a difference between central government and the traditional rulers and the respect being accorded to you shouldn't be abused ! I don't think the respect Ghana's goverments give you traditional leaders in this country is done in Togo or anywhere in Africa! We need you to respect our governments and stop being like you have resources to take care of your subjects! developments are done by our central governments and the respect they give you should be acknowledged and respected ! "STAY AWAY FROM POLITICS " that is what the constitution says and allow the government to do the best for the nation ! Ghana is for Ghanaians including Aflao not ECOWAS including Togo ! SHALOM !!!
Is that what the Chief really said or this is a reported speech?
