National Communication Officer of Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners, Abdul Razak Alhassan says President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s approach in fighting illegal miners is not the best.
He has also criticized the President for involving the military in "Operation Halt" to burn excavators.
President Nana Addo on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, noted that the state agencies are justified in destroying confiscated excavators from individuals and companies involved in Galamsey.
“I know there are some who believe that the ongoing exercise of ridding our water bodies and forest zones of harmful equipment and machinery are unlawful and, in some cases, harsh."
“I strongly disagree and I would advise those who take a contrary view to go to court to vindicate their position if they so wish. That is what the rule of the law is all about,” he said.
But Abdul Razak Alhassan thinks the President’s comment is rather unforgiving.
“It’s unfortunate and very sad. This shouldn’t be the way to solve the problem. We are not in support of illegal miners but the approach to solve the issue is not the best,” he told NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie'.
