China has announced that it will allow couples to have up to three children, after census data showed a steep decline in birth rates.
China scrapped its decades-old one-child policy in 2016, replacing it with a two-child limit which has failed to lead to a sustained upsurge in births.
The cost of raising children in cities has deterred many Chinese couples.
The latest move was approved by President Xi Jinping in a politburo meeting, state media said.
It will come with "supportive measures, which will be conducive to improving our country's population structure, fulfilling the country's strategy of actively coping with an ageing population and maintaining the advantage, endowment of human resources", Xinhua said.

I think China has come a long way in their planning for the future. It has put structures in place in terms of economy, educate, industry, etc and their system is working very effectively. Even within the province of Beijing, the capital, trees are been planted for export. In 2019, they celebrated 40 years of development and it was amazing what once over populated poor country had and is turning things around. To my amazement the citizens are not concerned of being classified as developing country. They are simply focus and seeking where/whatever it takes to reach the apex. Majority of parents are more than capable of taking care of three children; even the system consider that. They're pursuing and eager to send nationals into every part of the world to study, bring resources which they lack. I pray Ghana will realise and pursue proper future for today and future generations. Let's discipline ourselves and by God's grace we will get there.
