Investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has reacted to an incident in Accra where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was booed by patrons at a music festival.
Manasseh said what happened at the Black Star Square during the 2022 Global Citizen Festival was the truest voice of people unlike that of paid praise singers and sycophants who will see nothing wrong with the current state of governance.
He added that, President Akufo-Addo being booed when he arrived to deliver a speech was a referendum on his tenure and that he had two years to salvage a referendum on his regime.
His post on Sunday, September 25 read: "Mr President , for their selfish goals, chiefs, paid praise singers and sycophants will continue to sing insincere praises of you. But what you heard at the #globalcitizensfestival is the truest voice of the people, a referendum on your regime. You have two years to salvage it."

Exactly what happened?
Thousands of patrons were at the venue to witness the Global Citizen festival which had a number of local and international artistes performing.
As host of the event, the president was called upon to give his remarks, which happened to be a prepared speech that lasted over six minutes.
The booing happened when he started his speech saying: "The whole world is in Ghana today."
What started initially as people showing their disapproval of his presence on the stage, turned into loud clapping and chanting of the words: "away, away...," the president, however, stayed the course and delivered his full speech.
As if that was not enough, people on social media latched on to the development to mock the president.

What is the NDC telling Ghanaians it will do differently and better than the NPP-administration to restore the economy to an appreciating path of growth? That is exactly the issue I have with the NDC. It does not speak of policies, programs, and interventions it will undertake to bring back the economy in its current deplorable form and challenges into work. Theirs has always been massive propaganda , false fabrications, and lies against the government. If the NDC as an opposition party has the competence and better solutions to turn things over, it should demonstrate and convince Ghanaians that it has what it takes to present a better alternative. Negativity and painting the government bad do not, by infrerence, present solutions to the challenges. Unless that happens, the NDC lacks the ability to label Ghanaians as politically uneducated and intellectually deficient.Â
Manasseh, the politics in our country has become so much of POLITICS OF ATTRITION where you are either winning or losing. Nobody does anything for the good of it anymore. Why? The media and journalists, and you and your JOY FM are sadly leading the way in this, keep just headlining unnesecessary hyper-partisan sensational narratives and present them as news-worthy. How on earth could equate how the President was Hooted at as tthe true voice of the people. Which people? Are the people you are talking about only those who need their party to come to power? In the current economic environment, globally, what would anybody do differently in Ghana? Has your favorite NDC put forward any program they will implement when they are able to ride on the current hardships of the people into power? This same program was reported by CNN and MSNBC this morning here where I am in Virginia. They reported that $2.4b (BILLION) was raised at the two venues to SUPPORT PROGRAMS TO REDUCE GLOBAL POVERTY. They were interviewing the organizers on where those funds would be sent and what additional supports they would need. It was then that I went to Joy FM to check and none of the good deeds and intentions of the program was highlighted. Rather, the audience who thought it was more important to hoot at the president were the recipients of attention and reinforcement by you and JOY FM. Now, we are called to debate their actions instead of those good-hearted and contributing citizens who put their money where their mouths were, actually donating money. Manasseh, my friend, that is why we keep voting but not getting competent and results oriented leaders in our politics. We pay attention to the gallery so our leaders play to the gallery.
And that is the problem! When there is an issue you quickly find it very convenient blaming it on others!! It seems the program was organized by the NDC and attended by the NDC faithful!!! The anger brewing in the "Ghanaian pot" among the youth is being ignored.......It is these kind of feedback or responses from you that is the problem and it is sickening!!!! We will never take time to think through occurrences to find out WHY and by so doing, we may find an appropriate responses to issues. It is general knowledge that the world and the super powers are all facing economic hardships and it is the same that is affecting us here............ But the posture of some of our appointees leaves much to be desired!! Listening to Bempah this morning, I asked myself where did we go wrong? It is common knowledge that "who charts a path knows not of the straightness of the path behind him hence, must be prompted by someone"...... Now whenever the prompting is done, the fellow is branded as NDC or the response from appointees or sometimes the president rather comes in to fuel the anger.......... It is unfortunate, that the floating voters who decide on the next government every 8 years are taken for granted......To be fore warned is to be fore armed! If the opposition is now to be blamed for every and anything, then it tells you they are gaining grounds hence, the your strategy isn't working and must be reviewed!!!
The opposite is very true , especially for a party like the NDC that hinges its electoral fortunes on falsehoods and massive propaganda against the ruling party. The lies are very disgusting, disappointing and sad for the people of Ghana. A party that lacks the ability to suggest a policy approach to solve problems, let alone transform a structural problem, is not worth voting for. The NDC is desperate to demonstrate to Ghanaians that it has the ability and competence to form a better government to manage the economy. Hence, it has hopelessly opted for diabolism to win political power by hook or crook. As a result, I would urge Ghanaians to be wary of those dishonest intellectuals and journalists who are doing the bidding of the NDC.
Is this how we want to practice and live our democracy? Well, I don't think so. Organizing a few people to boo at a president is most easiest thing to do so if that's what we all want, then so be it. Desperation for power leads to the unthinkable and you get people like Mannaseh justifying that. Wow, are we all going bonkers because we aren't getting free money any longer??
