Retired Superintendent of Police the member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency in the Upper West region, Peter Lanchene Toobu has commended the police officer who was seen on his knees begging a Galamsey gang leader, Kwame Ato Asare in a viral video.
To him, the police officer was “wise” and acted “professionally” to avoid what could have been a bloody face-off between them and the wild gang.
“Let me congratulate him [the police officer] for what he did. He acted well,” He told NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie', in an interview.
Kwame Ato Asare together with four other friends went viral after he was seen exchanging words with some police officers who later knelt to apologise to him.
Although it is unclear what transpired, Kwame and his gang reportedly seized the magazine of a Service rifle together with some mobile phones belonging to the Police officers on March 9, 2023.
After the matter was reported by the Axim Divisional Police patrol, four suspects were arrested.
However, Kwame Ato Asare, the main suspect, is on the run.
