Killers of 26-year old pastor of Lighthouse Chapel International (LCI) Peter Nii Addy, have been slapped with a 20-year jail term on all counts to run concurrently.
He met his untimely death at the hands of armed robbers on December 30, 2009 at a colleague pastor’s residence. The accused persons were involved in different cases and were arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Justice Patience Tetteh. They were sentenced on counts of conspiracy and robbery. They are Asamoah, first accused, Kofi Yeboah, second accused; Kwabena Ebo, third accused and Osei Prempeh, fourth accused person.
In two of the cases, first, second and fourth accused persons pleaded guilty and not guilty in the third cases. The third accused person (Kwabena Ebo) pleaded guilty to all counts in the three different cases and was sentenced to 60 years with hard labour. The convict, who is already serving 17 years in jail, pleaded with the court to have mercy on him as he would be arraigned before the High Court to answer a charge of murder.
The other three accused persons who pleaded not guilty in the third case at the last adjourned date, also pleaded with the court to have mercy on them. According to them, they were told by the police to plead not guilty, stating that they would find mercy in the sight of the judge and be released. According to the facts as narrated by the prosecutor, on December 30, 2009 the deceased pastor and his friend, Rev. Acheampong, were attacked by armed robbers. He said one of the armed robbers pointed at a gun at Rev. Acheampong’s wife and so he begged them not to kill anybody.
The prosecutor said the robbers asked the Reverend to shut up and stop begging and further told him that if they did not find any money, they would shoot them. He said they removed their wedding rings, took their lap tops, jewelry, some watches and other things, but still kept asking for money. He intimated that the pastor even offered to give them (robbers) any car of their choice but they refused and demanded for money from them.
According to the prosecutor, the robbers proceeded to the deceased’s room where he was asleep and demanded for money from him. He added that when he (deceased) could not offer them any money, they shot him in the stomach and bolted away with some possessions. The deceased was reported dead when they got to the hospital. During the killers arrest, the prosecutor said the items they had stolen from the pastor’s residence were found on them.
