THE CHAIRMAN of the Church of Pentecost and President of Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Apostle Dr Opoku Onyinah, has expressed his disgust about the rate at which Christians resort to invoking curses as a shortcut for self-vindication.

According to Rev Dr Opoku Onyinah, such practices are not to be condoned in the house of God and, therefore, Christians who invoked curses should be dealt with according to the principles of the Bible.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah was addressing thousands of worshippers in the Sunyani Area of the Church of Pentecost on Sunday morning during the 2013 Easter Convention held at the Jubilee Park in Sunyani.

The four day convention which was under the theme: Christ Our Passover Lamb-1 Corinthians 5:7, was attended by about 20,000 congregants of the church in the Sunyani Area. Apostle Opoku Onyinah `was responding to concerns earlier raised by the Krontihene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bofotia Boamponsem II, who appealed to the clergy to advise Christians to put an end to curses.

The Krontihene who represented the Sunyanimanhene at the convention noted that most

of the cases of curses that came before the Traditional Council involved Christians. This, he stated, was very alarming and disturbing since Christians were supposed to set good examples in the society being followers of Christ.

It is estimated that about 80 percent of all cases of curses that came before the Traditional

Council in the recent past years involved Christians in the municipality.

Responding to these concerns, Apostle Opoku Onyinah described the development as

shameful, saying the attitude was unchristian. He therefore appealed to the chiefs to liaise with the leadership of the church by submitting the names of the offenders who happened to be members of the Church of Pentecost to their pastors for the necessary sanctions to be meted out to them.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah minced no words by saying that Christians who indulged in the act were total disgrace to the Christian community and needed repentance.

He advised Christians to refrain from curses and insults, while encouraging them to speak of good things to their children and others since God has embedded in them a great power that needed to be used positively for the good of others.

Speaking on the topic, Christ Our Passover Lamb Has Made Us True Worshippers, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost said God is seeking for true worshippers who will worship him in spirit and truth.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah again bemoaned the attitude of some Christians who moved from one place to another in search of solutions to their problems.

Other speakers at the power-packed convention were Apostle Kingsford Kyei-Mensah, Sunyani Area Head of the Church of Pentecost as well as other seasoned pastors of the church in the Area. Tens of souls were won for Christ, while many received both water and Holy Ghost baptism.
