The Ashanti Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Kofi Akunnor Ampofo, has expressed worry about the recent decrease in the church's tithes and offerings which he believes is as a result of the country's failing economy.

According to him, the country's economic hardship has intensified so much so that tithes and offerings provided by communicants and members of the church for the development of the church and its allied institutions have reduced drastically.

It is about time Christians rise up and contribute their quota in helping solve the country's economic crisis - we should not leave everything to the politicians but all have a part to play, he said.

Rev. Kofi Akonnor Ampofo who disclosed this at the Presbytery's 92nd conference at the Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science & Technology (KNUST) branch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana said prayer alone cannot solve the country's economic crisis but rather proper and prudent policies that can salvage the problem should be provided and implemented by the Government.

Corruption which has become the daily bread of some Christians should be tackled by Government. I believe that if these corrupt malpractices are corrected, things will turn out right for the country and the economy will be able to stand on its feet for Ghanaians and the church to benefit.

General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Opuni Frimpong also charged Christians to contribute to the country's development and not leave everything to the politician.

If we are afraid of name calling and tagging, then we will continue to wallow in abject poverty and suffering, he added.
