For its support and assistance to the celebration of the 2013 national farmer’s day in the Prestea-Huni Valley District of the western region, Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has been awarded a citation and a certificate of merit at the 29th edition of the 2013 District Farmer’s Day at Bepo in the Prestea-Huni Valley District of the Western-Region.

The citation was in appreciation for the mine’s sponsorship award for the best female farmer and highest corporate contributor to the celebration in the district since the celebration of the farmer’s day at Bepo two years ago.

District Chief Executive for Prestea-Huni Valley Robert Wisdom Cudjoe appealed to women in the district to venture into agriculture. He hinted measures put in place by government to address post-harvest losses and food security. The DCE called on corporate organisations to emulate Iduapriem Mine for their support towards the celebration.

At the Tarkwa -Nsuaem Municipality, the celebration was marked at Essaman. Senior Manager- Sustainability for Iduapriem Mine, Emmanuel Baidoo presented the award to the district best female farmer which was sponsored by Iduapriem Mine and is aimed at encouraging more women to venture into agriculture. It is also to enable them improve on their livelihoods and honor the gallant farmers for their contribution to the country.

The award which is a novelty forms part of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine’s support to farmers in the western Region and to help promote women empowerment. Since its institution, more women in the region have entered into agriculture, a phenomenon which is laudable
