Dust particles in the atmosphere, are interfering with the frequent rainfall which typifies the rainy season.
As a result of this, the season is experiencing scanty rainfall, as well as a lot of heat, which is not the usual case.
Mr. Michael Padi, Meteorologist at the Ghana Meteorological Agency, Kotoka International Airport, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Tuesday that there was a sudden intensification of what is termed, “high pressure” over Libya, North Africa.
He said as a result of this development, more winds were being generated, and these winds carried dust particles, making the atmosphere hazy, and fighting of atmospheric moisture, resulting in scanty rainfall and hot weather.
Mr. Padi said this hazy atmosphere got very intense last week, but abated over the weekend, adding that there were even isolated cases of rainfall over the southern part of the country.
Touching on the week ahead, the meteorologist said “looking at our weather systems, there would be some improvement towards the weekend, and the northern sector would experience some rainfall.”
He said the southern sector would on the other hand, experience isolated rainfall, and mentioned the mid parts of the Volta region, parts of the Ashanti, Central and Western Regions as areas where the rainfall was expected.
“Specifically, Accra would experience thunder storms over the mountainous areas, which would induce cloudiness over the lower parts of Accra,” he said
