Things turned messy yesterday at one toll booth between Ashaiman and the Tema Motorway when the driver and mate of a Mercedes Benz bus descended heavily on the toll collectors for extorting money from them (driver and mate).
According to them, the toll collectors at the booth, instead of taking the GH1.00 as the new road toll, decided to embark on another means of extorting money from unsuspecting and somehow ignorant pliers of the road. One passenger in the bus said, I saw the driver giving GH1.00 to the toll collector.
After he had done so, I realised to toll collector was refusing the driver to drive away and later saw the driver exchanging words with the toll collector. The toll collector, according to onlookers, told the driver that the toll he had to pay was not GH1.00 rather, GH1.50.
This did not go down well with the driver and his mate as they quickly alighted from the bus to deal with him. Had it not been for the timely intervention of some passengers and onlookers, things would have turned murky.
Meanwhile, information reaching the New Crusading Guide reveals that certain strong and masculine men have been positioned at certain toll booths in the capital with the instruction to beat up anyone who refuses to pay the new tolls as requested by government.
