An 11-year-old boy is facing murder charges in Indiana after the fatal shooting of his 6-year-old brother on Thursday.
Andrew Frye, the 6-year-old, was shot in the head Thursday. Though details around the case remain unclear, according to Yahoo News, the two boys were alone in their Morgan County, Indiana home at the time of the incident.
The boy will apparently be charged as a juvenile with murder and criminal recklessness.
The charges make the boy the youngest person in Indiana to have been charged with murder in over 90 years.
From the AP:
The last time someone so young was charged with murder in Indiana came in the early 1920s, when an 11-year-old was charged with murder and tried as an adult in northwest Indiana's Starke County. That boy was acquitted.
ANI reports that while initial reports suggested the death was an accident, that may not have been the case."There are cases where what you first believe to be true isn't necessarily where the evidence takes you. There are lots of things we need to find out. We've got to err on the side of safety, and we have to act appropriately," Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega told ANI.
