THE MEMBER of Parliament for Evalue-Gwira, Catherine Abelema Afeku, and Vice President John Dramani Mahama, last Saturday created frenzy at this year’s Kundum festival of the people of Axim in the Western Region.

The two dazzled the audience by displaying their amazing Kundum dancing skills at a durbar of chiefs to mark the climax of the festival.

They put their skills on display when the moderator of the occasion requested the vice president and those sitting on the dais to humbly move to the dancing floor since the people wanted to see their dancing prowess.

Madam Afeku and Mr Mahama exhibited their dancing prowess to the admiration of all as the audience kept on cheering them on and clapping for them.

A fantastic display of Ghanaian culture, amidst traditional drumming and dancing, characterized this year’s Kundum festival which took place at the Victoria Park in Axim.

The glamorous entry of the various sub chiefs to the durbar grounds was greeted with traditional drumming and dancing.

The over 1,000 audience, especially those from the Diaspora who turned up at the durbar grounds, had the opportunity to witness the rich Ghanaian heritage.

There was excitement at the durbar grounds when the dignitaries including Mr Mahama, Madam Afeku and Ato Ahwoi, Board Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC), took their turn to show their skills in the traditional Kundum dance.
This year’s Kundum festival which started on Sunday, August 21 and ended on Sunday September 18, 2011, was sponsored by MTN and was on the theme ‘Girl-Child Education’.
