Following the propaganda by government minders to present the demands of members of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) in bad light, details of the salaries of President Atta Mills’s brothers have shown that the gentlemen, Dr. Cadman Dufu Atta Mills, Presidential Advisor and Samuel Atta Mills, Presidential Aide, get more remuneration than the physicians and surgeons.

While the Mills brothers in government, Dr. Cadman Atta Mills and Samuel Atta Mills draw GH¢4,619 and GH¢3,882.86 respectively, a medical officer with many years’ experience takes home GH¢1,269.24, even less than what serial callers and NDC Communication team members like Peter Boama Otukunor and Fred Agbenyo take home.

This is in sharp contrast to the figures released from government sources purported to be the salaries of doctors, which peeved medical officers in the fold of the GMA who consider it as an attempt at inciting members of the public against them and doing propaganda with their strike action.

Dr. Hardi Abdullah, one-time President of the Junior Doctors’ Association, while scoffing at the figures posted by the government minders that doctors earned more than GH¢4,200, remarked when he spoke extensively on the issue recently, that they were only meant to incite members of the public against them.

Other aides are Messrs Kobina Abaka-Quansah who draws GH¢3902.76 while Patrick Nana Aniagyei, Mike Ernest Obuobi, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, Ludwig Akpene Hlodze, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Dr. Bright Afeke, Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, each draw the uniform amount of GH¢3,882.86 as presidential aides.

Dr. Eric George Alexander Don-Arthur, Tony Aidoo and Stephen George Obimpeh, senior presidential staffers, take GH¢4447.45.

Amarquaye Armarh, Energy Policy Advisor, takes GH¢4209.6.

The rest are Kwesi Santi Baffoe-Bonnie, presidential staffer, GH¢4107.96, Alexander Percival Segbefia, Deputy Chief of Staff, GH¢4,086.98 and Dr. Valerie Esther Sawyerr, Deputy Chief of Staff, GH¢4086.98.

When the strike action, the longest in the history of industrial action by doctors in the country, peaked, the government propagandists laid out what they claimed were details of the salaries of doctors.

Yesterday, the compulsory arbitration element of industrial disputes which was activated hit a snag and was duly adjourned.
