Mr San Nasamu Asabigi, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, has called for inter-ethnic and inter-religious marriages to foster greater national unity that would enhance peace in the country.

He noted that peaceful co-existence was a prerequisite for development and therefore urged all to embrace peace for the harmony of society.

Mr Asabigi made the call on Saturday when he led a government delegation to join the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, Hospital Road branch in Tamale to mark this year’s National Prayers and Thanksgiving Service as part of activities marking Ghana’s 55th Independence Day anniversary.

The delegation comprised of Alhaji Haruna Friday, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, and some officials from the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly. Earlier on Friday, Mr Moses Bukari Mabengba, Northern Regional Minister, led a similar delegation to participate in Jumah Prayers at the Ahamadiyya Mosque in Tamale.

Mr Asabigi said although the past 55 years had seen the country going through some challenges, it had also recorded remarkable progress in terms of development and improving on the lots of the people adding that” this was enough reason to give thanks to God for his guidance and protection”.

He thanked the clergy for their continuous prayers which had brought the country thus far and called on all to have an interest in the affairs of the country.

He also called for more prayers for the country to remain peaceful and stable given that this was an election year. He reminded the congregation of the upcoming Biometric Voters Registration Exercise being organised by the Electoral Commission and urged all qualified to participate in the exercise.

Pastor Fred Agyei-Baah, Head of North-Ghana Mission of the SDA, called for effective collaboration between the church and the state to ensure accelerated development of the country. He prayed for peace and stability in the country even as she went for general election in December, this year.

He cautioned against the politics of insults, saying it would not help the country and appealed to the youth to be circumspect in whatever they did and not be influenced into committing illegalities.
