Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur’s attribution of a dove landing on former First Lady Ernestina Naadu Mills’ vehicle to spirituality, when last Friday’s pre-interment service was moving from the Independence Square to the burial grounds at the Castle, has been explained.

The birds, close to a hundred of them, were placed on the Independence Arch and when especially the foreign dignitaries began leaving the place and the funeral procession headed towards the burial grounds for the last lap of the rites, the birds were released into the air but because they were weak, some of them were unable to take to the air.

Some of them fell down, one of which was the one which landed on the vehicle of the former first lady.

The vice president, who did not know that the doves which bore an assortment of colours were deliberately placed on the arch so they could be released later, as was done, ascribed spirituality to the development, alluding to it when he turned up in a church service in Cape Coast yesterday.

According to Vice President Amissah-Arthur, United States’ Secretary of State Hilary Clinton was the first to spot the ‘mysterious’ dove and later drew the attention of high government officials who were around.

He further narrated that they thought the dove might have landed on Mrs Mills’ car by coincidence, and would fly away should the car be moved.

Rather, as the car was moved, the bird re-positioned itself and remained firm on the car even as it was in motion.

He told the congregation at the thanksgiving service held for President Mills at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral, Cape Coast yesterday, thathe dove that perched on Naadu Mills’ cart was a sign from the late president that he was leaving Ghana as a stable and peaceful country.

Mr. Amissah-Arthur added that the death of President Mills also ushered Ghana into a new era, with many Ghanaians resolving to live exemplary lives just like the late President Mills.

However, the vice president’s statement has received various comments from the social media networks, with some inviting him to the propaganda world.

“Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, you mean the dove that perched on Naadu Mills’ car was a sign from the late President that he was leaving Ghana as a stable and peaceful country?

Eeeeiiii, you are less than a week in office and you’ve started engaging in silly propaganda already? Let’s see if you can stand the heat,” a writer posted.
