Eight persons including a trader, labourer and driver have been put before an Accra Circuit Court, accused of breaking into three houses in an Accra neighbourhood and robbing the occupants of various sums of money and household items.

The accused persons Agyemang Badu, unemployed; Ussif Abdul Raman, labourer; Abdulai Aliu, trader; Kwasi Tawiah alias Taller, driver; Kwamewu Kwadzo alias Papa carpenter; Usif Abubakari alias Sani Abacha, trader and Noah Vincent also a trader were reported to have raped one of the complainants through both vagina and anus.

The suspects were put in a court presided over by Francis Obiri and charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery. They pleaded not guilty to the offence and have been remanded while the case has been adjourned to September 25, 2012.

Presenting the facts of the case, the State Attorney Naana Osei Adoma, who held brief for Mrs. Evelyn Keelson a principal state attorney told the court that Grace Kusi was a banker and resided at Oyarifa with Peggy Williams and Mary Kyei.

She said the accused persons who were residents at different locations in Accra on August 7, 2011, at about 2:30 a.m. were armed with guns, sticks, hacksaw blade and big crowbar which they used to besiege the house of Grace, while the complainants were asleep.

According to her, the accused persons forced open the glass door leading to the living room with a crowbar at gun point and ransacked every room in the five bedroom house. The state attorney noted that one of the suspects hit Peggy Williams with the butt of the gun and ordered her to feign sickness in order to enter Grace’s room.

Furthermore, she said after being led to the room of Grace, the suspects asked all the women to lie on the floor and made away with an amount of GH¢250, her Nokia phone, a Verision blackberry phone, Black Diamond mobile phone and a digital camera.

In addition, she said they also took an engagement ring, gold jewellery and Holland wax prints all belonging to Grace. Explaining further, the prosecuting attorney stated that the suspects took from Mary Kyei a sum of GH¢290.00, and two phones including a blackberry and noted that four of the suspects later raped Peggy Williams in turns through her vagina and anus after taking her mobile phone.

She said the matter was later reported to the police who conducted investigations leading to the arrest of the accused persons on September 2011, after a tip-off.

According to her, Agyemang Badu was arrested on September 8, 2011, after police retrieved a pump action gun in his house and he led the police to arrest his remaining accomplice. The state attorney explained that during interrogation the suspects mentioned a certain Demio who was at large, as their accomplice.
