The family of Atafie in the Volta Region on Wednesday confirmed to the Judgment Debt Commission that it received money from the state as compensation for the flooding of the Volta Basin.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Nana Kwesi Osema Kwe II, told the Commission at its sitting in Accra that the family was given GHC 500,000 as a compensation for the flooding of the area and another compensation for a new resettlement.
He explained that when the flooding of the Volta Basin occurred, the land on which they were resettled happened to be the property of the Atafie family, thus they received another compensation for it.
The Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, who was also billed to appear before the Commission failed to do so, but gave gave no reason for his absence.
The Commission therefore adjourned the sitting to a later date to enable him to appear.
