Alhaji Mohammed Alamid Dawood, who is alleged to have aided Nayele Ametefeh (the suspect busted for allegedly smuggling 12.5 kilogrammes of cocaine to the United Kingdom) and her two friends to use the VIP Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra, has been arrested.

The suspect, also known as Alhaji Sani Dawudat, was arrested at the KIA at about 8:30 p.m. last Sunday shortly after he arrived from Lagos.

It is unclear if the suspect did not know that he had been declared wanted.

A source at the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) told the Daily Graphic that the suspect was being interrogated.

It did not disclose any further information.

Wanted

Alhaji Dawood was last week declared wanted by the BNI after his name popped up as the person who allegedly called a Deputy Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Abiel Ashitey Armah, who is the officer in charge of the VVIP and VIP Unit of the KIA, by phone to allow the ladies to use the VIP Lounge and also help them onto the tarmac to board the airline for London.

The arrest of Alhaji Dawood brings to 13 the number of suspects arrested in connection with the cocaine saga.

The other suspects in custody are Armah, Theophilus Kissi, Abubakar Ahmed, Nana Akua Amponsah and Sadalia Sandra Nuhu, the women who had travelled with Ametefeh.

The rest are Paa Kwesi Acquah, Mustapha Kilba, Faisal Khadar, Abdulla Mustrah, Mourn Taafar, Charbel Nasr, and Mariotto Benard Young.
They used VIP

Although initial information indicated that Nayele and her two friends, Sadala Nuhu and Nana Akua Amponsah, both businesswomen, had used the VVIP Lounge, investigations so far indicate that they rather used the VIP Lounge.

According to investigators, the ladies said on the day of their departure they were helped by two officers of the Foreign Affairs Protocol Unit who had been instructed by the officer in charge of the VVIP and VIP Unit of KIA to assist them to access the VIP Lounge.

Investigations also established that they used an entrance reserved for staff of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Airport Security, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, NACOB and the BNI at the airport.
